Why I no Longer Practice Reiki

“No more Reiki.”

This deep, authoritative voice came into my head as an external thought not generated by me, back in the summer of 2025 – and caught me pretty off-guard.

For a bit of context:  for a few months leading up to this point, after my friend, colleague, and coach Shawna Pelton, shared with me her encounter with God and the Holy Spirit.  She received a command to “stop the occult” – and I wasn’t sure what this would mean for me, as an energy healing practitioner for 15 years, and a mystery school initiate of 10 years.

I decided to meditate on it, and I dedicated time each morning praying. I consulted God,  Jesus, and the Holy Spirit for guidance: “May your will be done, not mine – please guide me on what paths you would like me to take and what choices you would like me to make today, so I can be a channel of your blessings to all“.

So, to hear “no more Reiki” as a former Reiki practitioner of 15 years, it was shocking and pretty devastating to say the least. (Prior to that, I had spent the past 15 years learning various forms of energy healing – including Reiki.)

Reiki aside, I was also engaging in practices and modalities such as smudging, Life Activation (DNA activation), astral travel, crystal healing, crystal readings (a form of divination), manifestation rituals (a form of sorcery) and lots more.

It’s not that I didn’t have good intentions. I still have always believed in God or Jesus through all of this (I was born and raised Catholic!).

And it was never my intention to go against the will of God.

In fact, I was previously under the impression that entire time that these occult practices stemmed from God.

(That’s what I was told by my mentors and teachers, and I think they truly believe this to be true!)

I had been told (and truly believed) that Reiki energy came from God, and that it was the same as the hands-on healing that Jesus did, as described in the Bible.

So, I was quick to brush this experience off as something I must have imagined.

Still, I prayed and asked the Holy Spirit for further confirmation so I could discern more clearly.

“No more Reiki.”  I heard it again.

Later that same day, I was shown this post about Reiki by former Reiki master Doreen Virtue on my Facebook newsfeed. (For the record, prior to seeing that post, I wasn’t aware that Doreen was no longer practicing Reiki!) Could this be the sign?

Grasping at straws for any reason this could just be a big coincidence and misunderstanding, I prayed to God, and asked if this was the sign of confirmation I had requested. I asked for one more sign, just to be sure I was correctly discerning this command and not imagining it.

The next day, two people in my world shared Doreen’s post with me – and I discerned this to be my confirmation (no more Reiki) – especially since it was following my last Life Activation experience.

While it’s been challenging to unravel something that had been woven into my identify and my career for over a decade, ultimately it’s important to realize that as humans, we don’t know what we don’t know – and it’s important to always put God first.  When we obey and surrender to the will of God, incredible things can happen.

I’ve since had some difficult conversations with my former Reiki clients… followed by bouts of revelation and breakthroughs.

Since discontinuing Reiki in the summer of 2025, I’ve began transitioning to a biblical hands-on healing practice which involves praying (directly to God, in the name of Jesus) and quoting scripture. It’s been a wonderful shift, and something I only wish I had known about sooner. (More on this hands-on healing practice soon!)

On my way to a client’s house for an in-person hands-on healing session, I noticed the license plate on the car in front of me – it said “Jesus: The Way, the Truth, and the Light.”  (More validation and confirmation!)

Is Reiki demonic?

For the record, to the best of my knowledge, no direct harm has ever come from Reiki; in fact, I saw a great deal of success among clients in my Reiki practice (that’s why I practiced it for so long!).

However, it was also revealed to me by the Holy Spirit (and through various Christian-based teachings) that the Reiki symbols – a key component of the Reiki protocols – don’t come from God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, and are not in the Bible – and thus act as a portal or “open door” which may legally allow in the spiritual realm for demonic infiltration and strongholds to occur. (Demonic infiltration and strongholds are a topic of spiritual warfare, and conversations for another time soon.)

That is a very abbreviated summary of why I’m no longer practicing Reiki; I’ll continue to update this post with some more information and context, in the fullness of time when I have the bandwidth to spend more time blogging.

In the meantime, thank you very much for taking the time to read this! If you’re a former Reiki client or actively practicing Reiki and other forms of energy healing, please know that I will never shame you or try to push you to stop doing what you’re doing; however, I truly hope you can understand my perspective and respect my decisions.

If you’re a fellow born-again Christian, and/or an ex-occult lightworker, please know you’re not along. I’d love to hear from you! Deception is real, and it’s easy to be tricked when so much of the New Age & occult movement presents itself as love and light. Please feel free to drop a line in the comments and tell me about your experience – I read and respond to every comment.

God Bless!
